Key Ranch

True Nicks

Key Ranch is a family owned and operated facility that provides its services with high quality standards, backed by over 29 years of experience in Thoroughbred breeding.  Through the diversity of an exceptional stallion roster, and the incorporation of established predictable breeding patterns, Key Ranch is able to provide a positive nick for virtually any mare.

There is no mystery surrounding the success of Thoroughbred stallions in Kentucky.  Mares are bred to stallions appropriate for them, and the resulting foals are raised to be athletes.  A stallion is proven on the track, not in the sale ring.

One stallion does not work with all mares, just as one mare does not work with all stallions.  Producing a good, solid racehorse begins with careful breeding choices.  Certainly, genetics play a major role in the determination of athletic ability.   But raising a successful athlete also requires proper nutrition, routine care, and sound conditioning.

The dollars spent in breeding a racehorse can be great or small.  The time and effort invested is always great.  This investment may be protected making careful breeding choices, and by meeting the requirements of the athlete.

Eaton's Gift to stand at Key Ranch

Key Ranch is pleased to welcome multiple graded stakes winner Eaton’s Gift to our 2012 stallion roster. This exciting young stallion defeated two Eclipse award-winning Champion Sprinters and earned over $475,000. The similarity in breeding between Eaton’s Gift and Scat Daddy (US Leading First Crop Sire of 2011) gives us an outstanding opportunity to follow proven successful patterns for your mares.

Stud Fees Flexible again in 2012

There will soon be an increased demand for horses at Texas tracks. As an added incentive for breeders, we will continue with the popular reduced stud fee schedule this year.

In 2012, Key Ranch will offer multiple options for payment of stud fees. A 50% discount will apply to stud fees paid within 30 days of the date the mare checks in foal. A 25% discount will apply to stud fees otherwise paid by September 1, 2012. Stud fees paid at time the foal stands and nurses will be at full advertised price.

We are hopeful that this flexibility will be beneficial to all our breeders, whose success ultimately determines our success.
